Frasier D. Mattison

My dad was one of the sailors who was on the Southerland when it first sailed. He enlisted and reported to Springfield, MA, the Monday following his graduation from high school at 17 and one half in June of 1944. He was trained in sonar and radar and became known as the "captain's talker" serving in that role as well. He served until May of 1946. He had a long career in the abrasive business and at one time his territory was the entire New England area. He, his wife, Ruth, and family moved to Niantic, CT., where he has resided for the past 50+ years.
